The Kingsway Entertainment District and the City of Greater Sudbury are committed to creating an environmentally sustainable District that will meet and exceed current design standards.
It is imperative that design and construction sustainability is taken into great consideration.
One of the ways we will be sustainable is by following the principles of Passive House while designing our buildings. Passive house is one of the most rigorous voluntary energy-based standards in design and construction today. A Passive House meets some of the highest standards in air quality and energy efficiency, and maintains a constant, comfortable indoor temperature while consuming up to 90 percent less heating and cooling energy than conventional buildings. Developments within the KED will be asked to meet or exceed Passive House or a similar standard to reduce the energy we consume.
Environmental best practices will be encouraged throughout the development, and solar energy is another aspect of the KED that is being considered.
To accommodate and promote the use of electric vehicles, our parking lots will have designated charging stations for electric vehicles near the entrances of each building.
